You have decided to leave your family and go on an unpredictable journey with your uncle. But you’re not too worried about it because your uncle Abram is the closest person to God that you have ever known. That is probably why you asked to join him when he said that he was leaving to an unknown land that God is going to show him. As you go on this journey, God starts to bless the both of you. You both become rich, so rich that the people that work for you are starting to get into fights with the people that work for your uncle. It’s not that they don’t like each other or that you and your uncle have problems, but you both have too many animals for that amount of land that you are currently in. So your uncle decides that the best solution is to split ways. He gives you first pick and lets you know that you can pick any direction to live in and he’ll go a different direction. As you look out you see the Jordan Valley, land that has plenty of water, a lot of healthy plants, everything grows good, and there are a couple of cities for you to go to if you like. Without giving it a second thought you choose to go there.
You choose to set up your camp near the city of Sodom, it is this massive city with more people than you’ll find anywhere else at the time. You are able to do whatever you want there, the only problem is that the people of the city are evil, but you decide that you can just live there and have the benefits of living there without being like the people.
As time goes on you start to settle into your new area, you get a friend group and start to find things that you like to do in the city. Things are going good for you, things are different then they were when you were with your uncle but that is okay. Then things start to change, war breaks out in the area and your city is involved. But this is your city now too so you refuse to leave or separate yourself in any way. That decision is going to cost you, your city gets taken over and the people get taken away as prisoners. And by this point you are one with the city so you are one of the prisoners.
At this point you think that your life is over, you have gone from one of the wealthiest people around with huge herds of animals and hired servants to take care of those herds, to a prisoner of war because you decided to join a city that you knew was evil. But what you don’t realize is that one of your friends has escaped and is on his way to tell your uncle what has happened. Whenever your uncle hears the story he sends his own men to fight, they win and free you and the rest of the city.
You have been given a second chance, you can choose to leave the city and start over. But your life is there, your friends are there, your family’s friends are there, so you choose to stay. This is your fatale mistake, the city is getting even more evil but you have become blind to it, you probably take part in some of it. It is getting so bad that God himself is about to take action against the city. Your only saving grace at this point is that your uncle is so close with God that God sends angels down to you to warn you of what is about to happen. But when they come, some of the people from the city notice them. And the people come to your home to demand that you send the angels, who look like men at the time, outside so that they can do whatever they want with them. But even you know that this is wrong so you offer your own daughters to the men instead. Oh how far you have gone. The angels tell you that the entire city is going to be destroyed, you have to get yourself and your family out and don’t look back.
You and your family leave at once. But as you leave the city you hear screaming and crying as fire falls down from the sky and destroys the entire city. As you get close to the horizon your wife can’t take it anymore and she turns around for one last look of the city. But even God himself has been pushed too far and she turns into a pile of salt. In one day you lose your friends, your home, your city, and your wife, because of the things that you allowed yourself to be around.
